IN FOND MEMORY

*Bakil at age 3 in Germany.

*Bakil, sire of winning race horses, halter champions, liberty champions, and performance winners died Monday, September 30, 1996. An abscessed hock led to systemic blood poisoning requiring him to be put down. His owner, Jan Joyner, has placed him at rest in front of her barn at her farm, Navidad Arabians in Schulenburg, Texas. *Bakil will be missed, both as a wonderful sire, and as a loving horse. Bakil was 18, the only son of both Kaisoon, and Om El Arab in America. His progeny carry his exotic head, his beautiful conformation, and his spirit. Mrs. Joyner stands some of his sons at stud, carrying on his superb heritage. He lives on in his many sons and daughters, but he himself is missed by many who loved him.

Below is a poem written by Jan Joyner the day after *Bakil's passing:

That far off look in deep dark eyes -- foretelling pain and ancient wisdom
Is the sign I've not been wanting to see, for it is the beginning of the end.
Not for me, but for him: this noble stallion who carried the timeless language of the bedioun soul from a far away place--
Who came to us with a young strong heart and strong lean legs with the deepest of courage and intelligence handed down through his strong gentle mother.
With not one complaint and the greatest of manners, taught to him I am sure by the noblest of mothers, he gave and gave until it was all used up.
And God told me with a whisper, "Send him to me, for he can gallop in great green pastures with his mother and father on sound painless feet."
So with a friend of the most kind and gentle heart, we gave him back to God with love.
Farewell, my beloved steed for just a little while.
Frolic and play in the heavens, for some day, I will join you to walk in soft green grass among flowers and stars.

*BAKIL
